Brake Repair in Calgary That Stops the Problem, Not Just the Car
Fast, honest brake service for Calgary drivers who need it done right the first time.
Is This the Brake Service You Actually Need?
Not every brake symptom is the same, and not every shop diagnoses them the same way. Here is who we work with every single day.
- Your brakes are making noise, squealing, grinding, or clicking when you press the pedal. That sound does not go away on it’s own. It gets worse.
- Your brake pedal feels soft, spongy, or sinks lower than usual, a sign of air in the hydraulic lines or a failing master cylinder that needs immediate attention.
- Your steering wheel pulls to one side when you brake, which can be a sign of a seized caliper or uneven rotor wear. On Calgary’s icy winter roads, this is not a minor annoyance. It is a hazard.
- Your vehicle shudders or vibrates during braking at highway speed. Warped rotors are the most common cause. Resurfacing or replacement is the fix.
- Your brake warning light is on. Transport Canada requires functioning brake systems on all road vehicles. Do not wait to see if it turns off.
What Your Brake Service Includes Every Time
Every brake job at Mighty Auto Repair follows a set sequence. Nothing gets skipped to save time. A shortcut on the brakes shows up on the road later.
- Full Brake System Inspection every time before any work begins. We check pad thickness, rotor depth, caliper function, brake lines, and fluid quality. You receive a written report of every finding before you approve a single dollar of work. No surprises on the invoice.
- Brake Pads Replacement using pads matched to your vehicle type and driving conditions, per manufacturer specifications. We do not use cheap aftermarket pads to protect our margin. Correct pad grade extends rotor life. Using the wrong grade costs you a rotor replacement you never needed.
- Brake Rotor Resurfacing or Replacement following OEM tolerances to ensure even pad contact. If a rotor measures below the minimum thickness on our micrometer, we will not resurface it. We will tell you it needs replacing. This is the step most quick-lube shops skip entirely. It is also the step that prevents rotor warping and repeat visits.
- Brake Fluid Flush with moisture testing using a refractometer. Transport Canada recommends brake fluid replacement every two years. Contaminated fluid lowers the boiling point and causes brake fade when you need stopping power most. When I tested one client’s fluid last winter, it read at 3.7% moisture, almost double the safe threshold. She had no idea. That fluid was three years past due.
- Road Test After Every Repair, we test brake response at low and moderate speeds on Calgary streets before we hand back your keys. Most shops skip the road test. We do not. It takes eight minutes and catches issues that a bay inspection misses. Know exactly what a proper brake inspection covers, and ask the right questions at any shop.

“My Brakes Don’t Sound That Bad, I’ll Wait a Bit”
The majority of shops won’t publicly state this: sometimes it’s okay to wait. If your pads are still above the 3mm wear limit and a slight squeal has just begun, you might actually have a few months left. Honestly, that is true.
However, the math changes fast. A basic brake pad replacement in Calgary typically runs $180–$300 per axle. Wait until the pads grind through to bare metal and score the rotor surface, and that same job jumps to $450–$700. That is not a hypothetical.

A Real Outcome From Waiting Too Long A Deerfoot Trail commuter brought his truck in last February after ignoring a grinding sound for three weeks. What would have been a $240 pad replacement on the front axle became a $695 job, as both rotors were scored past the resurfacing limit and needed full replacement. He told us he kept thinking the sound would stop. It never does. Pads do not heal. Every kilometre on bare metal is rotor material you cannot get back. |
And on a Calgary winter road, where stopping distance on ice already doubles, functioning brakes are not optional equipment. They are what stands between a near-miss and an insurance claim.
The responsible move is a free inspection. You might leave knowing you have three months before anything needs doing. That is still useful information. You also might leave with a repair that costs you $240 now instead of $700 in March.

Why Calgary Drivers Choose Mighty Auto Repair for Brake Service
We Measure Before We Quote Every Time
We use calibrated gauges to measure your pad thickness and rotor depth before we provide you with a quote. Not a visual approximation. Not an estimate. Precise measurements. This means that our quote is based on what your brakes actually require rather than what makes us the most money.
This surprises most of our clients. Many have been quoted for full rotor replacements elsewhere, only to find out our micrometer showed the rotor still had enough material to resurface. That is a $200–$300 difference on one axle.
We Never Start Work Without Your Written Approval
If we find something additional during a repair, work stops. We call you. We explain what we found. You decide. We do not add items to your invoice without a conversation first.
Here is what most Calgary shops won’t admit: some shops fix things mid-job and present a larger bill after the fact. We will not do that. If you do not approve it, we do not touch it.

What Calgary Drivers Say About Our Brake Service
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Marcus T., Construction Business Owner — NE Calgary “I kept putting off my brakes, figuring I’d deal with it on the weekend. A friend convinced me to just go get it checked. Turns out I had one rotor that needed replacing and one that was perfectly fine. They only charged me for what was actually needed. Saved me about $280 compared to what the dealership had quoted for both rotors. They also road-tested it before I left, something my old shop never once did.” Marcus T., fleet vehicle, NE Calgary |

Sarah K. Personal vehicle, SW Calgary: “I came in embarrassed because I’d been ignoring a grinding sound for two weeks. They found that both front pads were gone, and one rotor was scored. What got me was that they showed me the old parts and explained why the rotor was damaged, honestly, not in a shaming way. The whole job was done by 2 pm and came in exactly at the quoted price. Nothing added, nothing hidden.” Sarah K., personal vehicle, SW Calgary |

FAQ’s
How much does brake repair cost in Calgary?
In Calgary, brake pad replacement usually costs between $180 and $300 per axle for standard cars. When rotor resurfacing is added, the range increases to $280–$450. Depending on the car, complete rotor replacement with new pads costs between $450 and $700 per axle.
European vehicles and trucks are more expensive because of the cost of parts. Before work begins, we provide a fixed quote. Your exact price requires a physical inspection. Your exact price requires a physical inspection. We offer a free brake inspection.
How do I know if I need new brake pads or rotors?
Transport Canada’s vehicle safety standards and most brake manufacturers set the minimum safe pad thickness at 3mm, roughly 1/8 of an inch. Below that, the pads need replacing. Rotors have a minimum thickness stamped on the edge. If our micrometer reads that measurement below, resurfacing is not safe regardless of visual appearance. Grinding when braking means the pads are gone, and rotor damage has already begun. Squealing alone usually means pads are low, but rotors may still be in range. Only a physical inspection with calibrated tools gives you a certain answer.
Can I drive on squeaky brakes?
On chilly mornings, especially after an overnight downpour, a slight squeal is frequently the result of surface rust clearing in a matter of stops. It’s normal. Your brake wear indicator is functioning properly if it continues to squeal during regular driving or intensifies when you apply pressure. It indicates that your pads are at or close to the minimum. An inspection should take place in a matter of days, not weeks, but you can usually drive for a brief time. You are already causing damage to your rotors with each stop if the squeal has turned into grinding.
How long does a brake repair take?
A standard brake pad replacement on one axle takes 60 to 90 minutes at our shop. Add rotor work, and you are looking at two to three hours total. Most customers drop off in the morning and collect their vehicle by early afternoon. We get asked this constantly, and the honest answer is that most brake jobs are not an all-day commitment.
What happens if I ignore my brakes and do nothing?
The pattern is consistent: worn pads score the rotors, scored rotors damage the calipers. The cost of repairs is about doubled with each step. Beyond the financial realities, a car with severely malfunctioning brakes may be taken off the road according to Transport Canada’s vehicle inspection standards. With worn brakes, the stopping distance on dry pavement increases noticeably. That margin is already narrow on icy Calgary roads from November through March. Ignoring your brakes is not.
